TapestryChaliceOur congregation strives to reflect our values and spirit through the artwork and furnishings in our church building.

Over the years we have enjoyed many hand crafted works created by members and even by some of our handy ministers. Our 19th century church was adorned with hand sewn banners of symbols of world religions. Rev Ed Redmond (minister 1942-1960) was a woodworker who made an elaborate candelabra for our "new" sanctuary in 1956 and the next minister, Rev Erwin Gaede, made a pulpit for that sanctuary. (See photos of our historic buildings.)

Our current sanctuary is graced with a fabric chalice hanging made by members Betsy Price and Barb Hall. It echoes the design of our congregation's metal chalice crafted by former member Kyle Connolly. The wood pulpit in the sanctuary was made by members Doug Harris and Dave Hall.

You may want to view a list of UUAA artwork and artifacts with information about each item.

You can now view the church and surrounding property from space using Google Earth! Google Earth is a virtual globe program that maps the earth by the superimposing images obtained from satellite imagery. You can download the free Google Earth program from the Google Earth website

Once you have Google Earth installed you can download this file which contains all the land features of our property:trails, benches, campfire rings bird houses and more. To use this file:

  1. Click to download the First UU land mapping file  . Save it to your hard drive in a place you can remember. (The file is called 1st_UU_of_Ann_Arbor_BWH_04_2009.kml)
  2. Double click on the file wherever you saved it. It will start up Google Earth and zoom from space to the property. (If you don't have Google Earth open already, it will launch the program automatically for you).

First UU Paths and Land Features - an aerial view

Built in 1998 on 45 acres of grasslands and woodlands, our church building offers several panoramic views of the countryside. The building was designed by local architect David Osler, a recipient of numerous honors and awards. In November 2004, we finished and dedicated our bright and cheerful classroom wing. We generate much of our own energy on site from a wind turbine, rooftop solar panels and a rotating solar collector. The building has been "Accessibility and Inclusion" certified, providing wheelchair access, hearing amplifiers in the sanctuary and other features designed for inclusion.

We are located on the corner of Ann Arbor-Saline and Ellsworth Roads. For rental information, please scroll down this page.
